The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Sicily, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a real treat to discover if you are visiting Sicily on an island-hopping cruise.
The site features a range of stunning and well-preserved Greek temples that date back to ancient times, including the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera and the Sanctuary of Chtonian Deities, making Agrigento a fascinating place to enjoy a walking tour.
The World Heritage Site has also been recently revived with a special event directed by Andrea Moretti that depicts “the conquest of Akragas” – an ancient battle that took place between the Romans and the Carthaginians in 210 BC. As a part of this special re-enactment, ancient camps have been set up next to the Castor and Pollux Temple, allowing visitors to get a visual idea of how the city would have looked during this great battle all those years ago. There are also displays showing Roman medicines, cooking displays and battle scenes to watch, making this the perfect event for families!
