Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome on board the Silver Whisper
This Mediterranean cruise departs from Civitavecchia, near Rome, with boarding beginning in the afternoon/evening, allowing you plenty of time to explore the local attractions. Civitavecchia is an historic port town with roots dating back to Etruscan times and has many intriguing attractions that you can enjoy before boarding, such as Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is also a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture to enjoy, as well as fascinating museums. However, being so close to the Eternal City, you will of course want to enjoy the iconic attractions in Rome before boarding your cruise, and we can arrange tours of the Colosseum, the classic city sights (Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and more), and the glorious Vatican City as a part of your cruise package.

Day 2: Slip into serenity on the Aeolian Islands
The Aeolian Islands are an idyllic group of volcanic islands nestled north of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. They are famous for their beautiful landscapes, secret sea caves and warm climate, and the Whisper docks in the port of Lipari, which is surely the prettiest and most interesting on the Aeolian Islands, as well as the largest. Here, you can enjoy plenty of activities in the sun, such as sea swimming and snorkelling, and there will be plenty of time to lap up the warm Mediterranean sunshine too. If you have an interest in architecture, stop by Lipari Castle and the Cathedral for a real treat, or for those interested in ancient history, visit the archaeology museum.

Day 3: Soak up the Sicilian atmosphere in Trapani
On day 3 of your Italy, Malta and Greece cruise, the Whisper docks at the port town of Trapani on the western tip of the island of Sicily. Trapani has a famously curving harbour and, as we approach, you will be treated to glorious natural views of the coastline. As well as stunning scenery and rare wildlife, take some time to enjoy Trapani’s main attractions, especially the Church of Sant’Agostino, the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù, the Basilica-Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Annunziata, Fontana di Tritone, the Baroque Palazzo della Giudecca and the Cathedral. You can also reach Monte Erice from Trapani via cable car, where you can admire the mediaeval castle and, on clear days, take in views of Tunisia and Africa.

Day 4: Explore ornate palaces and museums in Valletta
The next stop on this diverse cruise of the Mediterranean is Malta’s capital: Valletta. Here, you will be able to explore the ornate palaces and museums that the city is famous for and see the overwhelming limestone fortifications that protect the city. There is plenty to discover here, but do take some time to wander the narrow streets lined with historic houses and wooden balconies to give you a real feel for the atmosphere of this special part of Europe. Also don’t miss the City Gate and Triq Repubblika, as well as the main shopping street of Triq Mercante.

Day 5: And so to Syracuse
After discovering the delightful island scenery of Malta, today we return to Sicily, taking you to the charming town of Syracuse on the island’s east coast. This charming town is rich in Greek history and has a number of intriguing buildings and amphitheatres to discover that hint to Syracuse’s past as a Greek colony. It was famously the birthplace of mathematician Archimedes and was once described by Cicero as “the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all”. It then fell under the rule of the Roman Republic and then the Byzantine Empire, and today is considered a wonderful example of the true atmosphere and nature of Sicily, with plenty of fascinating attractions, including the Necropolis of Pantalica, as well as a vibrant wine culture.

Day 6: Relax as the Silver Whisper cruises the sea
After leaving Sicily, the Whisper will cruise through the blissful sea waters toward the Greek islands. There are also wine-tasting sessions to enjoy, as well as dance classes and matinee movies in the theatre.

Day 7: Discover Greece’s Byzantine past in Gythion
After discovering the beautiful landscape of Italy and Sicily, today you will have the oportunity to soak up culture in Greece as the Whisper docks in Gythion, which is an ancient town in East Mani. The town is thought to have been founded by Heracles and Apollo, and today it is the most important port town in Mani, featuring sandy beaches decorated with ancient Greek ruins. The main attractions that must not be missed include the Dimitrios shipwreck and the Lighthouse of Gythio.

Day 8: Departure in Athens
