Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome on board the Silver Muse
This Mediterranean cruise departs from Civitavecchia, near Rome, with boarding beginning in the afternoon/evening, allowing you plenty of time to explore the local attractions. Civitavecchia is an historic port town with roots dating back to Etruscan times and has many intriguing attractions that you can enjoy before boarding, such as Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is also a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture to enjoy, as well as fascinating museums. However, being so close to the Eternal City, you will of course want to enjoy the iconic attractions in Rome before boarding your cruise, and we can arrange tours of the Colosseum, the classic city sights (Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and more), and the glorious Vatican City as a part of your cruise package.
Our recommended tours:
We offer a complete holiday planning service, which means that we have the pleasure of offering you exclusive tours to enhance your experience. Before beginning your cruise, you can enjoy one of our VIP tours of Rome – simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.

Day 2: Slip into serenity on the Aeolian Islands
The Aeolian Islands are an idyllic group of volcanic islands nestled north of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. They are famous for their beautiful landscapes, secret sea caves and warm climate, and the Muse docks in the port of Lipari, which is surely the prettiest and most interesting on the Aeolian Islands, as well as the largest. Here, you can enjoy plenty of activities in the sun, such as sea swimming and snorkelling, and there will be plenty of time to lap up the warm Mediterranean sunshine too. If you have an interest in architecture, stop by Lipari Castle and the Cathedral for a real treat, or for those interested in ancient history, visit the archaeology museum.
Our recommended tours: We offer a range of day tours from the port at Lipari, such as our Aeolian Islands Boat Tour, featuring Stromboli, or our Lipari Island Tour, which includes entry to the Aeolian Archaeological Museum. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 3: Soak up the Sicilian atmosphere in Trapani
On day 3 of your Italy and Spain cruise, the Muse docks at the port town of Trapani on the western tip of the island of Sicily. Trapani has a famously curving harbour and, as we approach, you will be treated to glorious natural views of the coastline. As well as stunning scenery and rare wildlife, take some time to enjoy Trapani’s main attractions, especially the Church of Sant’Agostino, the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù, the Basilica-Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Annunziata, Fontana di Tritone, the Baroque Palazzo della Giudecca and the Cathedral. You can also reach Monte Erice from Trapani via cable car, where you can admire the mediaeval castle and, on clear days, take in views of Tunisia and Africa.
Our recommended tour: If you want to explore more of Sicily, we recommend our Trapani to Erice Day Tour, allowing you to admire Erice’s glorious Cyclopean walls and Norman castle, or if you would prefer to stay local to Trapani, opt for our Panoramic Trapani Tour with Olive Oil Tasting. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 4: Recline in luxury in Cagliari
The next stop on this luxury cruise of the Mediterranean is Sardinia, with the Muse docking in the popular coastal resort of Cagliari, which is the island capital. Cagliari is an ancient city with a long history and we’re sure the city’s rich culture will delight those with an interest in history, especially the historic city walls with their 13th-century limestone towers. It is also a treasure trove of Art Nouveau architecture, with notable examples including the buildings stretching along Via Settembrini. However, if you would prefer to relax on the beach, head for Poetto, which is the main beach that stretches for 9 km from Sella del Diavolo to Quartu Sant’Elena.
Our recommended tour: To discover Cagliari’s historic sights, choose our Archaelogical Tour of Cagliari, or for something luxurious and to fully appreciate the overwhelming beauty of the Cagliari coastline, select our Panoramic Flying Tour of Cagliari. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 5: See rare sealife in Alghero
Continuing your cruise of Sardinia, today the Muse docks at Alghero, which is nestled on the western face of the island. It is known for its superb beaches, defined by their white sands and glistening emerald sea waters, as well as the decadent food, which has Catalan influences. This is the perfect resort for those that enjoy watersports, as there are many opportunities for SCUBA diving and snorkelling, and there is also a wealth of natural life to discover, including rare bird species and unusual Mediterranean plants, as well as magical sea caves. If you would like to discover the history and culture of Alghero, don’t miss a trip to the Old Town, where you can lose yourself in quaint narrow streets lined with flowers and see fascinating monuments, such as Palazzo Carcassona, Cattedrale di Santa Maria Immacolata di Alghero and several historic towers.
Our recommended tours: For a magical treat, we recommend our Neptune’s Grotto Tour, which takes you to the idyllic marine cave with its dramatic stalactites and stalagmites (boat or road tours available). Alternatively, if you’re eager to explore the local sights, we think you’ll love our Alghero Walking Tour, which includes wine tasting at a Sardinian winery. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 6: Absorb Ibiza’s vibrant city atmosphere
After discovering the beautiful landscapes of Italy and its islands, today you will have the oportunity to soak up the vibrant atmosphere in Ibiza – perhaps the most famous of the Balearic Islands. Although well known for its lively nightlife, the island has some of the most beautiful beaches and sea vistas in Europe, as well as a wealth of cultural attractions. In fact, large portions of the island are designated a World Heritage Site and some of the unmissable sights include God’s Finger in the Benirràs Bay and the remains of the first Phoenician settlement at Sa Caleta. If you have an interest in wildlife, make sure you visit the Ses Feixes Wetlands, which is now recognised as a threatened environment and is highly protected due to it being a key haven for migrating birds, with over 140 species, as well as bats and reptiles.
Our recommended tours: There are many attractions to enjoy from Ibiza and we think you’ll love our Old Villages of Ibiza tour, which also includes a visit to the museum house at Ca’n Andreu, or for something special, choose our Walking Tour of Dalt Vila, which takes you to Ibiza’s UNESCO-protected Old Town, where you can admire a wealth of stunning architecture. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 7: Enjoy Gothic architecture in Palma de Mallorca
Your journey of discovery around Spain’s most notable islands continues today with a visit to Mallorca, with the Silver Muse docking in the capital city of Palma de Mallorca. As well as pristine beaches and sublime coastal sights, the city is famous for its rich culture and architecture, with the top attractions including the Gothic Santa Maria Cathedral that overlooks the Bay of Palma, the Almudaina fortress, which is now a royal residence, and the ancient district of Sa Llotja, where you can find many fine boutiques and art galleries. We also think you’ll love the harbour promenade, which stretches from the cruise terminal to the Old Town and features some of the island’s most beautiful views.
Our recommended tours: There are many attractions to enjoy in Mallorca – why not choose our Highlights of Palma Tour, which gives you a diverse look at the city attractions, or maybe you would prefer our Vintage Train Ride to Soller Village, which takes you along the Soller Railway, featuring some of the most scenic parts of Mallorca, including a view of the Mallorcan Mountains. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 8: Departure in Barcelona
And so your luxury Mediterreanean voyage comes to an end today, with the Silver Muse leaving you in the famous city of Barcelona. Disembarkation begins at 8 am, giving you ample time to discover the famous attractions, including Gaudi’s many glorious buildings, the Gothic Quarter, Montjuic Hill and Park Güell. Don’t forget to visit the city markets too to pick up some last-minute gifts and treats – we recommend Mercat de Santa Catarina, Barcelonian and Mercat de la Boqueria as the best markets in the city.
Our recommended tours: As a finale to your luxury cruise of the Mediterranean, why not treat yourself to one last cultural experience with one of our special tours – choose from a tour of Gaudi’s Barcelona, featuring the architect’s most renowned buildings, or our vibrant Tour of the Gothic Quarter.
