Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome on board the Silver Whisper This luxury Mediterranean cruise begins in the exclusive resort of Monte Carlo in Monaco, which is an independent sovereign state composed of four quarters: Fontvieille (the newest), Monaco-Ville (the oldest), La Condamine and Monte Carlo – the latter of which is one of Europe’s leading tourist destinations due to its wealth of attractions and unrivalled luxury. As well as the famously decadent casinos, Monte Carlo’s top attractions are the Cathédrale Paroisse, Eglise Sainte Dévôte, Jardin Exotique et Grottes de l’Observatoire, Monaco Top Cars Collection, Musée Océanographique and of course the Palace, all of which you can enjoy as the Whisper remains docked in Monte Carlo until the early morning on day 2 of your cruise. Our recommended tours: We offer a complete holiday planning service, which means that we have the pleasure of offering you exclusive tours to enhance your experience. Before beginning your cruise, you can enjoy one of our hand-crafted tours, including our small-group Monaco Walking Tour, featuring the famous sights of this glamorous principality. Alternatively, for something shamelessly decadent, opt for our Helicopter Tour of the French Riviera. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 2: Discover the French Provence region in Antibes Today, we have the pleasure of taking you to Antibes, located in the southeast of the French Provence region, where you can discover a charming culture and a wealth of historic attractions. Antibes is considered one of France’s oldest cities and was founded by the Greeks in the 5th century, when it was known as Antipolis. While docked at Antibes, don’t miss the fascinating Old Town, which is a maze of flower-lined cobbled streets and features a 16th-century rampart that overlooks the city. However, if you would prefer to relax and take in stunning sea views, head to Juan les Pins, which is a famous beach resort and the host of the International Jazz Festival. Our recommended tours: We offer a range of day tours from Antibes, allowing you to discover more of the French Riviera, such as our Nice & St Paul de Vence Coach Tour or our popular Antibes Half-day Tour, featuring the Picasso Museum. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 3: Experience luxury in Portofino There are few resorts in Europe quite as exclusive as Portofino, which is a luxury holiday destination known for its outstanding natural beauty, colourful villas and sparkling sea waters. Sitting on the Italian Riviera, here you can be sure of the most sublime sea vistas and you will have a full day here to relax and rejuvenate in the sun. If you would like to explore the village attractions, we recommend the Castello Brown Museum and the churches of St Martin, Oratorio di Nostra Signora Assunta and St George – the latter contains some relics of saints that will intrigue those with an interest in spirituality and religion. However, if you would prefer something a little more active, stop by the Portofino Marine Park, where you can enjoy snorkeling and perhaps even see the underwater statue of the Christ of the Abyss. Our recommended tour: If you want to relax in front of glorious views of the bay, we think you’ll love our Flavours of Portofino food-tasting experience, which features luxury olive oils, Italian specialties, wine and decadent desserts – yum! Or, for something cultural, enjoy our Private Boat Tour to San Fruttuoso, a 10th-century abbey with glorious architecture. Day 4 & 5: Visit Tuscany’s Renaissance gems As your luxury Mediterranean cruise continues, you will stop at Livorno on Tuscany’s coast, where you will have two full days to explore. Livorno is an excellent base from which to discover some of our favourite towns and cities in Tuscany, such as Pisa, Lucca and Florence, and we can arrange a day trip to any of these cities as a part of your Italy cruise package so that you can simply relax and look forward to your Tuscan adventure. If you would prefer to discover the charming Tuscan atmosphere of Livorno, we highly recommend visiting the vibrant market and looking out for tasty cinque e cinque, which is a type of chickpea (garbanzo) pancake served in fresh focaccia with a spicy sauce. Our recommended tours: We offer a range of day tours from Livorno. Choose from: a Day Tour to Pisa & Lucca with Wine Tasting, a Chianti Wine-tasting Experience or our Renaissance Walking Tour of Florence (with optional entry to the Accademia or Uffizi). Here, you can also enjoy watersports, such as snorkeling, and there are plenty of sea caves to explore. Alternatively, you can simply relax on the beach and soak up the Mediterranean sun. Our recommended tours: We offer a range of day tours from Porto Vecchio – why not treat yourself to our Lavezzi Island by Boat tour, allowing you to explore the shell sand beaches and nature reserve, and swim in the azure-coloured sea. Alternatively, for a land and sea day trip, enjoy our The White City by Train & Boat Tour, which is one of our most popular tours and takes you on a tram ride around nearby Bonifacio, before ending with an idyllic boat tour featuring sea caves and limestone coastal vistas. We also highly recommend sampling some of the fresh seafood in Olbia – local favourites are lobster cooked in Italian wine and seadas, which are cheese-filled crêpes covered in honey. It has many intriguing attractions that you can enjoy, such as Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine and Cattedrale di San Francesco, and there is also a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture to enjoy, as well as fascinating museums. However, being so close to the Eternal City, it would be a shame not to discover the many world-famous sights of Rome, including the iconic Colosseum and Roman Forum, as well as Vatican City, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
Our recommended tours:From Civitavecchia we offera range of VIP tours of Rome – simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.
Day 9: Wander through lemon groves in Sorrento Continuing your journey of discovery through Italy’s treasured resorts, today you explore the coastal delights on the south coast as the Silver Whisper anchors at the port town of Sorrento. This charming town is famous for its citrus groves – the lemons of which are used to make the Italian liqueur limoncello – and it is also the perfect base from which to explore the region. If you enjoy archaeology and ancient history, we highly recommend visiting Pompeii, which was lost for nearly 1500 years following a volcanic eruption in 79 AD. Today, it is considered one of the world’s most important archaeological sites, where you can see how people lived so many years ago. If you would prefer to explore the natural attractions, we recommend visiting the island of Capri, which is known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean. It is a vibrant island with plenty of boutique stores to enjoy, as well as pretty Mediterranean gardens, magical sea caves (don’t miss the Blue Grotto) and unusual natural rock formations, making this tranquil island the perfect place no matter what your interests! Our recommended tour: Journey back in time with our exclusive VIP Land Excursion to Pompeii, which features a thought-provoking tour of the archaeological site with a private guide. Also don’t miss the City Gate and Triq Repubblika, as well as the main shopping street of Triq Mercante. Our recommended tour: To discover the heart of Valletta, choose our Valletta Hidden Gems Tour, which features St Paul’s Shipwreck Church and the Manoel Theatre. Venice has a wealth of attractions to enjoy and is the perfect place if you enjoy dynamic architecture – we highly recommend visiting Doge’s Palace, which is full of decadence and splendor, and don’t miss out on St Mark’s Square with its glorious Golden Basilica. And then there is the Rialto Bridge, as well as Venice’s hidden attractions, such as Teatro La Fenice and Scala del Bovolo.
