Description

Step back in time with a fascinating day trip to the lost city of Pompeii.

The city of Pompeii is close to the Bay of Naples and is famous as an archaeological site of unrivalled significance as, in 79 AD, a long and catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius covered and destroyed Pompeii, killing over 2000 inhabitants. The city was covered in a thick layer of ash, which preserved the ruins and its inhabitants and it remained lost for 1,500 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1599.

Today, the site is considered to be one of the few places where an ancient city has been preserved in detail, with everything from jars and tables to paintings and people frozen in time, yielding an unprecedented opportunity for you to see how the people lived 1500 years ago. This special day trip, which can be added to any of our Italy mainland cruises that include Sorrento, includes transport from Sorrento to Pompeii and a two-hour guided tour of the site with a professional guide.
