Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome on board the Silver Muse This Mediterranean cruise departs from Civitavecchia, near Rome, with boarding beginning in the afternoon/evening, allowing you plenty of time to explore the local attractions. Civitavecchia is an historic port town with roots dating back to Etruscan times and has many intriguing attractions that you can enjoy before boarding, such as Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is also a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture to enjoy, as well as fascinating museums. However, being so close to the Eternal City, you will of course want to enjoy the iconic attractions in Rome before boarding your cruise, and we can arrange tours of the Colosseum, the classic city sights (Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and more), and the glorious Vatican City as a part of your cruise package.
Our recommended tours: We offer a complete holiday planning service, which means that we have the pleasure of offering you exclusive tours to enhance your experience. Before beginning your cruise, you can enjoy one of our VIP tours of Rome – simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.
Day 2: Soak up the sun in Corsica On the first full day of your Mediterranean cruise, you will have the opportunity to discover the idyllic island of Corsica – one of the most popular of the Greek islands. The Muse will dock at the port town Ajaccio on the west coast of the island, which is considered Corsica’s cultural hub. The city is famous as the home of Napoleon Bonaparte and the family home is now the National Museum Maison Bonaparte, which pays tribute to the emperor’s historical influence. Other popular attractions include the remnants of a 12th-century Genoese colony in the Old Town, Foch, the Cathedral and the various Napoleonic statues. Our recommended tour: We highly recommend enjoying our Walking Tour of Ajaccio, which includes a visit to the Fesch Museum, or for a chance to discover the natural beauty of Corsica, choose our Calanche de Piana Excursion, featuring a scenic drive to Cargese. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 3: Discover the luxury of Sardinia On the third day of your Italy cruise, you will visit the famously luxurious island of Sardinia, with the Muse docking on the northeastern coast of the island in the town of Olbia. This lively seafront port is one of our favourite Sardinian resorts thanks to its vibrant bars, authentic restaurants and its diverse mix of culture, history and pristine beaches. It is also within easy reach of the decadent Costa Smeralda holiday resort – the most exclusive resort on the island – and has good transport links, allowing you to discover other parts of Sardinia with ease. If you would prefer to stay local, we recommend visiting the archaeological sites of Cabu Abbas, the holy well of Sa Testa and the giant’s grave of Su Monte and S’Abe, and don’t miss the Punic necropolis and the Roman baths too. Our recommended tour: To see the best of the nearby attractions, why not choose one of our pre-arranged Sardinia day trips, such as our Wine-tasting Experience or our luxury Excursion to Costa Smeralda, which gives you free time to discover the most famous towns on this stretch of coast. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 4 and 5: Take a step back in time On day 4 of your Italy cruise package you will visit the coastal town of Sorrento in South Italy. The town is a popular holiday destination and is known for its blossoming citrus groves – the lemons of which are used to make the famous Italian limoncello liqueur, which we highly recommend sampling – and there are many boutique shops to enjoy, where you can buy gifts, such as hand-painted ceramics. Being docked at Sorrento, you will also be able to admire the epic Mount Vesuvius, which stands proudly on the Neopolitan coast, as well as simply stunning coastal views and sea vistas. Sorrento is also the perfect base from which to discover the ancient settlements of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which were lost for nearly 1500 years following a historic volcanic eruption in 79 AD. Thanks to the rare level of preservation offered by the lava and ash that covered the cities, they are considered two of the best archaeological sites in the world where you can see how people lived so many years ago. Our recommended tour:Journey back in time with our exclusive VIP Land Excursion to Pompeii, which features a thought-provoking tour of the archaeological site with a private guide. Or, for a relaxing treat, enjoy a Wine-tasting Experience in the Foothills of Mount Vesuvius, featuring local wines and decadent Italian snacks. Simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.
Day 6: Absorb the charm of Sicilian culture in Palermo After seeing one of Italy’s most popular coastal resorts, today you can kick-back and enjoy an altogether different pace of life in the laidback city of Palermo, which is Sicily’s capital. The city sits on the west coast of the island and is known for its refined architecture, including particularly intriguing examples of Baroque architecture, such as Quattro Canti with its four fountains. Palermo also boast a number of enriching museums and we highly recommend visiting Palazzo dei Normanni, as well as Zisa, which houses a collection of Islamic art and local artifacts. Our recommended tour: While in Palermo, we recommend enjoying our Palermo & Monreale Tour, taking you to all the main city sights, as well as the hilltop town of Monreale. Or for a taste of the flavours of Sicily, enjoy our Palermo Cooking Class, which takes you on a fascinating journey through Sicilian food and its pivotal role in Sicilian culture. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 7: Marvel at Mount Etna in Taormina After discovering the enticing beauty of Sicily’s capital, today you can explore the chic town of Taormina, which sits at the foothills of Mount Etna on the east coast of Sicily. The Muse anchors in the bay of Giardini Naxos, allowing you to appreciate fantastic views of the UNESCO-protected natural site of Mount Etna and Taormina. It is just a short transfer to Taormina, where you can explore the fascinating attractions, such as the Duomo (Cathedral), Palazzo Corvaja, the Anglican Church of Saint George, the Church of San Domenico and the exquisite Baroque fountain. Alternatively, opt for one of our exclusive land excursions to see the wider region, including the epic Mount Etna. Our recommended tour: We highly recommend enjoying our Mount Etna Wine-tasting Experience, featuring local wines produced from the Etna vineyards. Or for something a little more exhilarating, enjoy our Quad Bike Tour to the Etna Lava Fields. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 8: Relax as the Silver Muse cruises the sea After leaving Sicily, the Silver Muse will cruise through the blissful sea waters toward the cultural city of Dubrovnik – one of Croatia’s most popular holiday resorts. Whilst cruising, you can take advantage of the on-board facilities, such as the spa and fitness suite, or the designer boutiques. There are also wine-tasting sessions to enjoy, as well as dance classes and matinee movies in the theatre.
Day 9: Stroll along historic city walls in Dubrovnik On one of the final days of your Mediterranean adventure you can discover the vibrant city of Dubrovnik in Croatia, known locally as the Pearl of the Adriatic. The city is a UNESCO-protected site and has been since 1979, and boasts spectacular city walls, which are certainly a must-see as the main attraction. In fact, Dubrovnik is considered to be among the 10 best mediaeval walled cities in the world and we highly recommend wandering along the walls, where you will be rewarded with simply stunning views over the Old Town and the shimmering Adriatic Sea. Our recommended tours: Whilst in Dubrovnik, you can enjoy our Buggy Safari with Views of the Srdj Hill or perhaps you would prefer our refined Dubrovnik Tour & Wine-tasting Experience. For fans of the TV and book series Game of Thrones, don’t miss our themed tour experience! To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.
Day 10: Relax in front of sea views After leaving Croatia, the Silver Muse will cruise through the blissful sea waters toward the Floating City of Venice – one of Italy’s most famous and best-loved holiday destinations. Whilst cruising, you can take advantage of the on-board facilities, such as the spa and fitness suite, or the designer boutiques. There are also wine-tasting sessions to enjoy, as well as dance classes and matinee movies in the theatre.
Day 11: Slip into serenity in the Floating City of Venice This luxury cruise will end in the magical city of Venice, which is one of Italy’s most popular and romantic holiday destinations. Here, you can enjoy the vibrancy of the Grand Canal, which is lined with decadent palaces that nod to Venice’s rich past, and marvel at the gondolas as they float by serenely. Venice has a wealth of attractions to enjoy and is the perfect place if you enjoy dynamic architecture – we highly recommend visiting Doge’s Palace, which is full of decadence and splendor, and don’t miss out on St Mark’s Square with its glorious Golden Basilica. And then there is the Rialto Bridge, as well as Venice’s hidden attractions, such as Teatro La Fenice and Scala del Bovolo. If you want to discover other delights in the Venetian Lagoon, we highly recommend taking a boat tour to Murano, Burano and Torcello, which are three islands nestled in the Venetian Lagoon where you can discover an authentic way of Venetian life and local crafts, including glass-blowing and lace-making. Our recommended tours: The sublime attractions in Venice are not to be missed and our hand-selected shore excursions treat you to the top sights. For rich and varying architecture, opt for our Private Tour of Venice or, for something truly special and magical, treat yourself to a Private Gondola Ride of the Grand Canal.
