Civitavecchia is an historic port town with roots dating back to Etruscan times and has many intriguing attractions that you can enjoy before boarding, such as Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is also a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture to enjoy, as well as fascinating museums.
Our recommended tours:
We offer a complete holiday planning service, which means that we have the pleasure of offering you exclusive tours to enhance your experience. Before beginning your cruise, you can enjoy one of our VIP tours of Rome – simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.

Day 2: Discover Elba Island
After setting sail from Civitavecchia, the SeaDream cruises north to the idyllic island of Elba, which you will reach in the early evening on day 2 of your Italy cruise. After docking at Portoferraio, you will have the chance to explore the island attractions – Portoferraio is well known as one of the region’s most beautiful coastal towns and the SeaDream generally stops just steps from the main street of Via Garibaldi. On Elba Island you can discover the sights where Napoleon passed his time while in exile on the island – we recommend seeing the Misericordia Church, Piazza Napoleone (the highest point in the town – it offers stunning views that are not to be missed) and Villa dei Molini, which is thought to have been Napoleon’s official residence. If you would prefer to enjoy the island scenery, you can borrow a mountain bike from SeaDream and explore along one of the pretty cycling trails.
Our recommended tours: Whilst on Elba Island you can enjoy our Elba Discovery Tour with Wine Tasting or our Napoleon Walking Tour – simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.

Day 3: Enjoy a Tuscan adventure
On day 3 of your luxury Mediterranean cruise, you will stop at Livorno on Tuscany’s coast, where you will have a full day to explore. Livorno is an excellent base from which to discover some of our favourite towns and cities in Tuscany, such as Pisa, Lucca and Florence, and we can arrange a day trip to any of these cities as a part of your Italy cruise package so that you can simply relax and look forward to your Tuscan adventure.
Our recommended tours: We offer a range of day tours from Livorno. The Cinque Terre is a UNESCO-protected stretch of coastline in Liguria (Italy) that is made up of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. The coastline is known for its rugged beauty, with colourful villas that line the hills that sweep dramatically into the sparkling sea. You will have a full day on the Cinque Terre to admire the sights and perhaps stop in one of the boutique stores to buy gifts. There are also plenty of walking trails to enjoy, as well as seafront promenades with idyllic views.
Our recommended tour: We highly recommend enjoying our Three Islands Boat Tour, which takes you to the spectacular Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto islands. Alternatively, for a land excursion, enjoy our Private Walking Tour of the Cinque Terre to appreciate the quaint beauty of the five fishing villages. Day 5: Experience luxury in Portofino
There are few resorts in Europe quite as exclusive as Portofino, which is a luxury holiday destination known for its outstanding natural beauty, colourful villas and sparkling sea waters. Sitting on the Italian Riviera, here you can be sure of the most sublime sea vistas and you will have a full day here to relax and rejuvenate in the sun. If you would like to explore the village attractions, we recommend the Castello Brown Museum and the churches of St Martin, Oratorio di Nostra Signora Assunta and St George – the latter contains some relics of saints that will intrigue those with an interest in spirituality and religion. However, if you would prefer something a little more active, stop by the Portofino Marine Park, where you can enjoy snorkeling and perhaps even see the underwater statue of the Christ of the Abyss.
Our recommended tour: If you want to relax in front of glorious views of the bay, we think you’ll love our Flavours of Portofino food-tasting experience, which features luxury olive oils, Italian specialties, wine and decadent desserts – yum! Or, for something cultural, enjoy our Private Boat Tour to San Fruttuoso, a 10th-century abbey with glorious architecture. Day 6 & 7: Let’s discover Corsica!
On the last two days of your Mediterranean cruise, you will have the opportunity to explore the rich beauty of Corsica, a glorious island in the Haute-Corse department of France. On day 6, the SeaDream docks in Calvi, which sits on the northwest coast of the island, giving you the opportunity to enjoy watersports, hiking, golfing and mountain biking. However, if you’re eager to discover the unique Corsica culture, you may prefer our walking tour, featuring the main cultural sights. After discovering the delightful scenery in Calvi, the SeaDream cruises to Bonifacio, where you will dock on day 7 of your Mediterranean cruise. On the approach, your expert captain will navigate along the limestone cliffs so that you can enjoy a stunning view of the town and the great Aragon steps that lead to the water’s edge.
