Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: Welcome on board in Venice
This Italy cruise package departs from Venice, with boarding beginning in the afternoon on day 1 of your cruise. You will stay in Venice overnight, giving you every opportunity to discover the magical attractions, such as the vibrancy of the Grand Canal, which is lined with decadent palaces that nod to Venice’s rich past, and the iconic Venetian gondolas, which bob serenely along the canals. Venice has a wealth of attractions to enjoy and is the perfect place if you enjoy dynamic architecture – we highly recommend visiting Doge’s Palace, which is full of decadence and splendor, and don’t miss out on St Mark’s Square with its glorious Golden Basilica. And then there is the Rialto Bridge, as well as Venice’s hidden attractions, such as Teatro La Fenice and Scala del Bovolo. If you want to discover other delights in the Venetian Lagoon, we highly recommend taking a boat tour to Murano, Burano and Torcello, which are three islands nestled in the Venetian Lagoon where you can discover an authentic way of Venetian life and local crafts, including glass-blowing and lace-making.
Our recommended tours: We offer a complete vacation planning service, which means that we have the pleasure of offering you a selection of tours to complement your Italy cruise. Before boarding the Whisper, you can treat yourself to our Private Tour of Venice or, for something truly special and magical, opt for a Private Gondola Ride of the Grand Canal. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 3: Stroll along historic city walls in Dubrovnik
On day 3 of your Mediterranean adventure you can discover the vibrant city of Dubrovnik in Croatia, known locally as the Pearl of the Adriatic. The city is a UNESCO-protected site and has been since 1979, and boasts spectacular city walls, which are certainly a must-see as the main attraction. In fact, Dubrovnik is considered to be among the 10 best mediaeval walled cities in the world and we highly recommend wandering along the walls, where you will be rewarded with simply stunning views over the Old Town and the shimmering Adriatic Sea.
Our recommended tours: Whilst in Dubrovnik, you can enjoy our Buggy Safari with Views of the Srdj Hill or perhaps you would prefer our refined Dubrovnik Tour & Wine-tasting Experience. For fans of the TV and book series Game of Thrones, don’t miss our themed tour experience! To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 4: Relax as the Silver Whisper cruises the sea
After leaving Croatia, the Whisper will cruise through the blissful sea waters toward the idyllic island of Malta. Whilst cruising, you can take advantage of the on-board facilities, such as the spa and fitness suite, or the designer boutiques. There are also wine-tasting sessions to enjoy, as well as dance classes and matinee movies in the theatre.

Day 5: Explore ornate palaces and museums in Valletta
After a relaxing sea cruise on day 4, the next stop on this diverse cruise of the Mediterranean is Malta’s capital: Valletta. Here, you will be able to explore the ornate palaces and museums that the city is famous for and see the overwhelming limestone fortifications that protect the city. There is plenty to discover here, but do take some time to wander the narrow streets lined with historic houses and wooden balconies to give you a real feel for the atmosphere of this special part of Europe. Also don’t miss the City Gate and Triq Repubblika, as well as the main shopping street of Triq Mercante.
Our recommended tour: To discover the heart of Valletta, choose our Valletta Hidden Gems Tour, which features St Paul’s Shipwreck Church and the Manoel Theatre. Alternatively, if you would like to discover wider Malta, opt for our Private Malta Adventure, which takes you by private car to Casa Rocca Piccola, St John’s Co-Cathedral and Mdina. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 6: And so to Sicily
Today, you will have the opportunity to discover a true hidden gem as the Whisper docks in the charming fishing port of Porto Empedocle on the coast of the Strait of Sicily. The town is part of Agrigento – an historic province in Sicily famous for its glorious Greek temples – and as a part of your Italy cruise package we can arrange a guided tour of the UNESCO-protected Valley of the Temples. Porto Empedocle’s namesake is the Greek philosopher Empedocles, who lived in Agrigento in the 5th century BC; however, it is known in Sicilian as “Marina”. Interestingly, the town changed its name to Porto Empedocle Vigata in 2003 after the fictional town made famous by the Inspector Montalbano novels, although the decision was then revoked in 2009.
Our recommended tours: Those interested in Greek history will love our Valley of the Temples Tour, which takes you on a journey back in time in Agrigento, or for a mix of archaeology and Sicilian culture, choose our Selinunte Day Trip, which features lunch in a seafront restaurant and the opportunity to discover one of the largest archaeological sites on the Mediterranean. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 7: Soak up more of the Sicilian atmosphere in Trapani
On day 7 of your Italy cruise, the Whisper docks at the port town of Trapani on the western tip of the island of Sicily. Trapani has a famously curving harbour and, as we approach, you will be treated to glorious natural views of the coastline. As well as stunning scenery and rare wildlife, take some time to enjoy Trapani’s main attractions, especially the Church of Sant’Agostino, the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù, the Basilica-Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Annunziata, Fontana di Tritone, the Baroque Palazzo della Giudecca and the Cathedral. You can also reach Monte Erice from Trapani via cable car, where you can admire the mediaeval castle and, on clear days, take in views of Tunisia and Africa.
Our recommended tour: If you want to explore more of Sicily, we recommend our Trapani to Erice Day Tour, allowing you to admire Erice’s glorious Cyclopean walls and Norman castle, or if you would prefer to stay local to Trapani, opt for our Panoramic Trapani Tour with Olive Oil Tasting. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 8: Take a step back in time on Italy’s mainland
Today, you will visit the coastal town of Sorrento in South Italy. The town is a popular holiday destination and is known for its blossoming citrus groves – the lemons of which are used to make the famous Italian limoncello liqueur, which we highly recommend sampling – and there are many boutique shops to enjoy, where you can buy gifts, such as hand-painted ceramics. Being docked at Sorrento, you will also be able to admire the epic Mount Vesuvius, which stands proudly on the Neopolitan coast, as well as simply stunning coastal views and sea vistas. Sorrento is also the perfect base from which to discover the ancient settlements of Pompeii and Herculaneum, which were lost for nearly 1500 years following a historic volcanic eruption in 79 AD. Thanks to the rare level of preservation offered by the lava and ash that covered the cities, they are considered two of the best archaeological sites in the world where you can see how people lived so many years ago.
Our recommended tour: Journey back in time with our exclusive VIP Land Excursion to Pompeii, which features a thought-provoking tour of the archaeological site with a private guide. Or, for a relaxing treat, enjoy a Wine-tasting Experience in the Foothills of Mount Vesuvius, featuring local wines and decadent Italian snacks. Simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.

Day 9: The iconic sights of Rome
On what will surely be a highlight of your Italy cruise package, today you will dock at the historic port town of Civitavecchia near Rome. The city has roots dating back to Etruscan times and has many intriguing attractions that you can enjoy, such as Forte Michelangelo, Terme Taurine and Cattedrale di San Francesco. There is also a wealth of Roman and Vatican architecture to enjoy in Civitavecchia, as well as fascinating museums. However, being so close to Rome, you will surely want to enjoy the iconic sights of the Eternal City, such as the Colosseum and Roman Forum, Vatican City and the glorious Sistine Chapel, and the beautiful Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps.
Our recommended tours: We offer a wide selection of VIP tours of Rome, including special access tours of the Colosseum and “skip the line” entry to Vatican City – simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page for more information.

Day 10: Immerse yourself in the rugged charm of the Cinque Terre
After discover the famous sights of Rome, today you can explore the quaint charm of the Cinque Terre fishing villages. The Cinque Terre is a UNESCO-protected stretch of coastline in Liguria that is made up of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. The coastline is known for its rugged beauty, with colourful villas that line hills that sweep dramatically into the sparkling sea. You will have a full day on the Cinque Terre to admire the sights and perhaps stop in one of the boutique stores to buy gifts. There are also plenty of walking trails to enjoy, as well as seafront promenades with idyllic views.
Our recommended tour: We highly recommend enjoying our Three Islands Boat Tour, which takes you to the spectacular Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto islands. Alternatively, for a land excursion, enjoy our Private Walking Tour of the Cinque Terre to appreciate the quaint beauty of the five fishing villages. To find out more, simply click the “Tours & Land Excursions” tab at the top of the page.

Day 11: Departure in Nice
And so your luxury Mediterranean cruise comes to an end today in the chic city of Nice on the French Riviera. Nice has several famous attractions that you can enjoy after leaving the ship, including the city’s famous seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais (“the Walkway of the English”).
Our recommended tour:
